Based on customs data and field surveys, this report highlights the essential contribution of SMEs and mid-cap companies to French foreign trade, as well as their expectations in the face of export challenges.

It confirms a solid dynamic despite a demanding international environment. Accounting for 47% of French goods exports, or €280 billion, SMEs and mid-cap companies remain a pillar of France's international economic presence. The number of exporting companies is on the rise again, reaching 151,200 operators (+5%), driven by the arrival of 44,500 new exporters.

While large companies are experiencing a slight decline, SMEs and mid-cap companies are showing great resilience, with marked increases in certain European markets, notably Belgium (+1%) and Spain (+3%). The European Union remains the preferred destination, accounting for 53% of these companies' exports, with Germany, Belgium, Spain, and Italy as the main partners.

Beyond the European market, the United States and the United Kingdom remain key destinations, each accounting for 7% of SME and mid-cap company exports. All sectors of activity are represented, but the chemical industry, metallurgy, machinery and equipment, agri-food, and pharmaceuticals are the main drivers of sales.
